A friend at work gave me this idea for Thin Mint truffles a few months ago. It took me awhile to get around to actually making them because I wasn’t sure I wanted to use up my only box of Thin Mints on a new recipe idea. However, I’m so glad I tried it because, as much as I love eating Thin Mints straight out of the freezer, I like eating these Thin Mint truffles even more. They are similar to oreo truffles, but with a slightly different texture, and of course a minty taste. I actually prefer them to oreo truffles which is disappointing, since I can’t buy Thin Mints year round at the store. Although maybe that’s for the best because neither Mike nor I could stop eating these addictive little truffles. If you’ve got some extra Thin Mints laying around your house (or if you need an excuse to buy even more Girl Scout cookies), give these Thin Mint truffles a try. I bet you’ll love them as much as we did!
Print Recipe
Thin Mint Truffles
Ingredients:
1 box thin mints
4 oz cream cheese, softened
1 package white chocolate candy melts
Directions:
Crush Thin Mints into fine crumbs in a food processor. Mix crushed cookies and softened cream cheese in a large bowl until completely combined (your hands work best for this). Roll into small balls. Melt white chocolate discs in the microwave, stirring until smooth. Using a toothpick, dip the Thin Mint balls into the chocolate, letting the excess chocolate drip off. Set the truffles on waxed paper to cool. If desired, drizzle with melted green candy melts or with white chocolate candy melts mixed with a dab of green gel food coloring.

Hi Megan,
If you have a Dollar General Store nearby, they have a thin mint that is very similar to the girl scout cookies; they also have a peanut butter version of the tagalong, and the samoa. And they are all very good!! 🙂

The 99 cent Only store in our area sells two brands of mint chocolate covered cookies. Both are yummy. I’m sure if you look around you could find something that would make a good substitute through-out the year. Also, Mccormick.com posted a recipe for cakepops using 3/4 cup marshmallow creme instead of frosting, this makes me think I could try marshmallow creme instead of cream cheese in your recipe, to please some of my family who will not eat cream cheese. Thanks for the inspiring recipe!

Alternates to Think Mints:
1. Dollar General version of Thin Mints.
2. Keebler Grasshoppers
3. Nabisco’s Famous Chocolate Wafers (or something similar), a bit of mint extract, and some frosting (or marshmallow creme) could be mashed up into the truffle mix.

Just this past weekend I tried a homemade thin mint recipe that was pretty good and “better than the GS cookies”. I think that might have just been said to make me feel good, but they really weren’t bad. I bet they could work for this recipe if someone is feeling super ambitious. 🙂 Here’s the link to it:

Murray’s makes a sugar free “thin mint” for those diabetics! Also, either Winco Foods or candy stores make a sugar free chocolate! just sayin’!!!! sounds yummy!!!

I buy the Walmart ‘Great Value’ brand of thin mint and peanut butter patties for all my baking…they are just as tasty as GS cookies and less than $1.50 a package!
