NFL Week 9 coverage map: Full TV schedule for CBS, Fox regional broadcasts | Sporting News (2024)

Last week featured one of the most loaded NFL main slates of the 2023 season to date. Week 9 will give viewers a dose of reality, as more international games and bye weeks thin the pool of teams playing.

The Broncos, Lions, Jaguars and 49ers are all on bye in Week 9, meaning there are just 14 games set to be played. As usual, three will occur in prime-time, but the Dolphins vs. Chiefs game on Sunday will be played at 9:30 a.m. ET, as the NFL plays its penultimate international game in Germany.

As such, there will be just 10 games in the Sunday main slate. Seven will be played in the 1 p.m. ET slot while three will be played in the late-afternoon window that begins at 4:05 p.m. ET. So, the late slate will be a bit lighter on action than usual.

Still, there will be plenty of high-quality games on Sunday that will be split evenly across CBS and Fox. Each network will broadcast five games but Fox will have the all-important broadcast doubleheader rights; they will use that to their advantage to turn the 4:25 p.m. ET Cowboys vs. Eagles game into a pseudo-nationally broadcast game.

Only the Las Vegas and New York City markets will not receive the Cowboys-Eagles broadcast in Week 9. That will make it the marquee game of the main slate as the two NFC East favorites square off in battle. In the early window, Fox will rely more on the Rams-Packers game to do the heavy lifting in a three-game package that features very little quarterback talent.

CBS, meanwhile, will rely on the Seahawks vs. Ravens game to serve as its best matchup of the week. The majority of the country will get to watch Lamar Jackson and Geno Smith face off against strong defenses in a clash of two of the best teams in each conference, so CBS will be hoping that game remains close.

There will be three stand-alone games on Sunday and Monday this week. The marquee matchup will be the Germany game between the Chiefs and the Dolphins, as two of the AFC's best teams square off against one another.

Then, on "Sunday Night Football," there will be another top-tier AFC battle between the Bills and Bengals. That game will be a rematch of the AFC divisional-round playoff from last year that the Bengals won 27-10; it will also mark the return of Damar Hamlin to Cincinnati, where he suffered a cardiac arrest on the field but was revived. That may make the contest an emotional one for both teams.

"Monday Night Football" will feature the Chargers and Jets in a game that could help determine which team has a legitimate chance in the AFC wild-card race. The Jets are on a three-game winning streak, and their defense should provide a strong test to the Justin Herbert-led Chargers.

The NFL's main slate may be lighter this week, but the Cowboys vs. Eagles matchup should be an intriguing one. Dallas needs to win to keep pace with Philadelphia in the NFC East while the Eagles have the best record in football. A Cowboys win could kick their Super Bowl hype into overdrive and would tighten the NFC East into a true two-horse race.
