Ingredients

  • 3 cup puffed rice/murmura/muri
  • 1/4 cup onion finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup tomato finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup cucumber finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup potatoes boiled, peeled & chopped
  • 1 tsp mustard oil
  • 2 green chilies
  • 2 tbsp coriander leaves finely chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 tsp black salt
  • 1/2 tsp roasted cumin powder
  • 1/4 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp chat masala
  • 1/4 tsp dry mango powder(amchur)
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup namkeen mixture
  • 3 tbsp fine sev for garnishing

Instructions

  • Collect all the required ingredients.

  • To make jhal muri, take a bowl and add onion, tomato, cucumber, and boiled potatoes.

  • Then add green chilies.

  • Now add all the spice powders such as red chili powder, chat masala, dry mango powder, roasted cumin powder, salt, and black salt.

  • Pour mustard oil. Here I used mustard oil from the pickle.

  • Give all these a good mix. Taste it and add spice powders if you prefer more.

  • Add crisp puffed rice. Make sure they are crisp otherwise muri will turn chewy. You can roast them for a few minutes to crisp them before adding here.

  • Mix gently without making puffed rice soggy.

  • Add coriander leaves and namkeen mixture. Instead of the mixture, you can also add roasted peanuts.

  • Drizzle some lemon juice.

  • Again give it a good mix gently.

  • Jhal Muri is ready. Transfer to a serving bowl.

  • Just before serving, garnish with sev, chopped onion, and coriander leaves.

  • Serve this spicy and tangy jhal muri instantly.

Notes

  • You can also use roasted or fried peanuts instead of a mixture or you can go ahead with whatever you have.
  • Beformaking jhal muri,check a few puffed rice and they should be crunchy and not soft or chewy.
  • Do not add green chili if you are making for kids.
  • You could adjust the spice powders as per your taste.
  • Serve jhal muri immediately else murmurturns soggy and doesn’t taste good.
  • Instead of lemon juice usetamarind pulp for more tanginess.
  • Add sprouts to make it more healthy and tasty.
