Maybe "what we're going for here," folks, is to have a little fun. If it's "hard to imagine" what it tastes like, then for Pete's sake, just make it and find out. It's canned cranberry sauce, not beef bourguignon.

Alison, although I love the look of this on the serving dish, how do we actually *eat* this? Although I can imagine a bit of cranberry sauce on the fork with a bite or two of turkey, it's hard to imagine a bite of fresh orange, onion, AND cranberry along with the meat. Is that what we're going for here?

Absolute what my mother did for us 60 or so years ago - without the mint/parsley or lemon juice, (way to fancy). In So Cal our navel oranges where just ready for harvest about Thanksgiving so she used every opportunity to incorporate oranges in EVERY meal! This was my favorite, and yes you kind'a cut up the oranges/onion/canned cranberry in little chunks and mix and match on your fork. WOW what a memory. I will definitely resurrect it this year. THANK YOU.

I'm not going to make this recipe, being more the cranberry chutney type, but when I was a kid, we always sliced the canned cranberry relish. And then we used a turkey cookie cutter to make festive cranberry turkeys. I thought everyone did this!

An easy way to release the jelled cranberry from the can is to open both sides of the can. It will slide right out!

Made this last night, and it is an easy complement to the heavy gravy, etc. I made the mistake of grabbing organic cranberry sauce, and it was so mushy it wouldn't slice and hold its shape. So, go low when you go low with this dish.

This was pretty and fun. It was also strangely addictive. I agree with another poster who recommended “going low” with the canned cranberry. I, too, chose the organic kind, and while it held its shape as I sliced it, the texture was unappealingly mushy. Stick with the trash food.

Canned cranberries are a tradition in my family for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I love this spin on them - dresses them up a little. Best thing about this is how quick and easy it is to make. I use canned mandarin oranges, rather than oranges that require cutting, to make it even easier (plus I personally love mandarin oranges.). You eat it with a fork on the side, by the way.

The problem with slicing canned cranberry sauce is that today the cans are two piece cans meaning it only has one lid. There is no second lid to remove so the cranberry sauce doesn't slide out.

I wondered about the can too. But I made this last night, opened the lid, and the sauce slid out nicely in one piece. I had read an article that you could slide a knife along the inside of the can to break the vacuum, but I didn’t need to do that.

Another year in a row where I will be making this, the dish that converted me to a cranberry sauce eater. I’m obsessed. So is my husband. Put little slices of it on any other part of your plate. Eat separately. Either way it’s fantastic, whimsical, and delightfully acidic and sweet.

Oh my... I once sliced the canned cranberry jelly and placed in serving dish and my mother reacted as if I commit a horrible sin. Never served it sliced again- apparently to some it must stay in the shape of the can.

No matter how many times I try to serve my family delicious homemade cranberry sauce at Thanksgiving, they always demand the canned jelly stuff. Finally, something to please everybody!

Well I've made this a for a couple different Thanksgivings and every time there are at least a few people who tell me it was their favorite thing on the table. A super easy, tasty, and fun way to dress up a classic.

I made this last night for a mini thanksgiving meal for two and it was surprisingly good, and super pleasing to look at. It’s nice to add some color to a spread of mainly brown or mashed foods. I used mint and a healthy squeeze of lime. We both loved it between bites of turkey and stuffing! A palate cleanser, if you will.

Made this dish for thanksgiving as an alternative to just canned cranberry. I did not have any fresh lemons on hand, so I squeezed the juice of an orange over the dish. I also used dried mint (from our garden). The thinly sliced onions worked well with the dish, lending their flavor but losing their harsh, raw bite. Even put this on left over turkey sandwiches!
