‘It’s a pressure cooker’ & a ‘love curse’ – real reason why FIVE Love Island couples have called it quits in ONE month (2024)

IT doesn’t matter whether you’re a Love Island star with one million Instagram followers or a Kardashian living it up in the Hidden Hills, the Reality Love Curse has hit a lot of our favourite celebrities.

Love Island might have the noble aim of pairing up sexy singletons for a happily ever after, but things often don’t work out that way.

While couples such as Molly-Mae Hague and fiance Tommy Fury, both 24, and Olivia, 30, and Alex Bowen, 32, are still going strong, others have faltered when tasked with life on the outside world.

Love Island All Stars aimed to give a handful of hotties a second shot – yet even these don’t boast high success rates.

In the space of just a month, we’ve seen five Love Island couples call it quits.

Irish bombshell Adam Maxted, 31, seemed the perfect pairing for model Arabella Chi, 32, who had been unlucky-in-love in the All Stars villa, but not long after their villa stint, the pair officially announced their break-up.

Another All Stars romance hit the fan when Luis Morrison, 29, and Demi Jones, 25, decided to part ways.

They broke up just weeks after leaving the spin-off show and insisting they would “make it work.”

As well as this, Love Island finalists Tyrique Hyde, 24, and Ella Thomas, 23, broke up for the second time this year – yet skeptical fans have accused them of faking it.

The Sun exclusively reported how the footballer and model had called it quits – hot on the heels of their brief split in November.

But that’s not all, as while Zach Noble, 26, and Molly Marsh, 22, appeared to be going strong seven months after their Love Island stint, it was recently confirmed that the couple had decided to end their relationship.

A rep for both of them was first to tell us: “Love Island’s Molly Marsh and Zachariah Noble have made the decision to end their relationship in the last week.

“They both are still extremely close friends and will be supporting each other in their next ventures.”

And if that wasn’t enough, earlier this month, fans were left open-mouthed after Eva Zapico, 25, and Nas Majeed, 28, broke up after four years together.

The reality stars found love in the 2020 series, but a source confirmed to The Sun: “Eva and Nas have decided to split – it’s a very sad situation for both of them but it was the right one.

“They separated in mid-Feb, it was Eva’s decision to end it with Nas.”

Nick Ede tells all

As a result of break-up after break-up, Fabulous spoke to brand and culture expert Nick Ede, to get his thoughts on the Reality Love Curse.

The PR pro told Fabulous: “Reality stars have it bad and even though many become famous for going on dating shows, keeping their partners and finding true love is harder than it seems.

“For every fairytale like Alex and Olivia Bowen or Molly-Mae and Tommy Fury, there are dozens who just can’t seem to find love.

“Even stars like Kim Kardashian, who have it all on paper, have found it increasingly hard to find the perfect partner.

“There is the obvious issue that being famous brings scrutiny from social media, mainstream media and others in the media.

“This magnifying glass on your life and especially your love life can cause pressure between partners and ultimately result in love splits.

“It’s very common for celebrities to date each other as they know the highs and lows of the public eye and fame.

“When a celebrity dates someone who isn’t from the industry, there are a lot of trust issues that can arise due to a long history of people selling stories, using a celebrity for their own fame and as a stepping stone, so this can be a big issue for reality stars.

“The life of a reality star is full on and so if you don’t get that this will be part of your everyday life, it can feel very alien and relentless to people.

“Dating a reality star is a full time job in itself as you are thrust into the public eye and will have to look good for pictures as well making it an expensive relationship to get into.”

Not only this, but Nick also discussed how ‘expectations’ and ‘egos’ can play a role in celebrity break-ups.

He shared: “The expectations and egos on TV reality stars are huge and so much higher than the general public so this is an added pressure for anyone who wants to date.

“It’s not easy and it’s on many occasions not fun and certainly isn’t a walk in the park when dating a reality star.”

As a result, here we take a deep dive into some the most recent victims of the Reality Love Curse – from Geordie Shore’s Chloe Ferry to Kim and Khloe Kardashian.

Chloe Ferry: Dated seven

It all started for Chloe Ferry in 2016, when she confirmed her budding romance with Sam Scott – a DJ – as she shared an image with the caption “My Sam,” on Snapchat.

But fans were confused, as Chloe then wrote on Twitter: “When you break up with your boyfriend of 6 years on Monday and then he decides to publicly humiliate you with a Z-list for some ‘fame’.”

The reality star is also said to have dated TOWIE’s Jon Clark in 2016. The pair supposedly went on dates and shared a flirty photo with Jon’s hand on Chloe’s knee, but Chloe soon dumped the TOWIE star after “catching him arranging a meeting with another girl,” as reported by MailOnline.

Chloe also dated Geordie Shore star Marnie Simpson, as The Mirror reported that the pair had slept together in the Geordie Shore house in 2017.

The Geordie Shore star then dated Scotty T during filming for the show, but things ended in tears when Scotty cheated on Chloe with Chantelle Connelly.

The reality star also dated Marty McKenna and shortly after dated Kieran Bishop in Celebs Go Dating: The Mansion, which aired in February 2020.

In 2019, Chloe sparked relationship rumours with Love Island’s Jack Fincham after the pair were spotted flirting on holiday in Ibiza.

But it was Sam Gowland that caught everyone’s attention when it came to Chloe Ferry’s love life.

Sam and Chloe first went public with their relationship in October 2017, but they split in May 2019 after Chloe accused Sam of cheating with Amber Davies, which they both denied.

Megan Barton Hanson: Dated five

Megan Barton Hanson shot to fame in 2018 when she took Love Island by storm, as a bombshell, but since leaving the famous villa, the interest in her romantic life has not slowed down.

Prior to her island appearance, Paul Chaplin dated Megan for 18 months, treating her to designer clothes, a £30k car and even paid for her flat.

The former adult film entertainment boss, met Megan at an X rated awards bash in 2017 and the pair holidayed together in Tenerife before they split just months before Love Island 2018.

Wes Nelson is one of Megan’s most notorious exes as the two found each other in the Love Island villa.

They left the island as a fully fledged couple and both confessed their love for one another, but in January 2019 Megan released a statement on Instagram, mimicking that of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin’s infamous “conscious uncoupling”.

The Sun exclusively reported that Megan dumped Wes because their sex life had fizzled out.

Megan and former Towie star James Locke first dated for around two months in 2021.

One minute they were on, then they were off and then they were back on again, but now it seems that they’re off for good.

Over the years, Megan and Demi Sims have had an on/off romance – after they were first seen out as a couple in July 2019 after meeting on Celebs Go Dating.

But in August 2019 after her break up from Demi, Megan, who is openly bisexual, dated Chelcee Grimes.

Despite a brief break-up in October 2019, the pair rekindled their romance, but by April 2020, fans noticed Megan and Chelcee had unfollowed and deleted snaps of each other on social media.

Lauren Goodger: Dated five

The couple were childhood sweethearts and started dating when they were just 15 years old.

In 2011 they got engaged on TOWIE but their engagement only lasted five months and they had a very public break-up that was documented on the reality series.

Following this, Lauren dated Jake McLean on-and-off for four years. The pair had a very public romance after meeting in 2012 and in 2013 they were expecting a child together, but Lauren unfortunately suffered a miscarriage.

In 2016, Lauren announced that they had split and she admitted that the relationship had been “toxic”.

In 2016 Lauren caused controversy when she began dating jailbird Joey Morrison, who was serving time in prison for a string of violent drugs-related charges.

Lauren also had a thing with Ricci Guarnaccio, who she appeared on Celebrity Big Brother with, where he confessed to falling for her.

They were seen kissing and cuddling before heading back to their hotel together at 4am, but sadly for the Geordie lad, Lauren was adamant nothing would happen between them.

Lauren has also dated Charles Drury, a builder and amateur football player who once dated Katie Price, in 2020.

The reality star first teased their relationship in October 2020 and officially announced that they were dating a few weeks later.

Just three months after confirming their romance, the pair announced that they were expecting their first child together, but then four months after their daughter was born, Charles revealed that they had split, in a statement posted to Instagram.

Kim Kardashian: Married three times, total of 11 men

She started her romance journey with Damon Thomas, when she was 19-years-old. Kim married the music producer in 2000, but after three years, things ended when Kim accused Damon of controlling behaviour in the divorce papers, which Damon vehemently denies.

Kim then went on to date Ray J and the pair were together for three years until 2006. Then, a year after their split, a sex tape Kim Kardashian Superstar of the pair was leaked online.

The star also dated Nick Cannon for about a year, to which Nick opened up about their relationship on Drink Champs podcast, saying, “I was really into her, I was vibing. She’s actually one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet.”

Kim then dated American football player Reggie Bush, who she was with for three years, and then went on to tie the knot to basketball player Kris Humphries.

The pair got engaged after seven months, but it wasn’t to be – as after 72 days of marriage, Kim filed for divorce, and the separation was eventually finalised in June 2013.

Kim has also been spotted with Dallas Cowboys football player Miles Austin and then she briefly dated her bodyguard Shengo Deane in 2010.

In late 2010, the Kardashian was linked with model Gabriel Aubry, but after ‘taking it slow’, then ended things in the December.

Following from this was her almost decade long relationship with her third husband, Kanye West.

The couple tied the knot in a luxurious ceremony in 16th-century Fort di Belvedere in Florence, Italy and welcomed four children together; North, Chicago, Saint and Psalm.

But after countless dramas over the years and six years of marriage, the couple announced they were filing for divorce in February 2021.

Following her divorce, Kim has been with comedian Pete Davidson, and was recently spotted ‘hanging out’ with Odell Beckham Jr.

Khloe Kardashian: Married once, total of eight men

The reality star dated former NBA player Rashad McCants. at the end of 2008, but by January 2009, the couple had announced their split.

Also that year, Khloe was linked with NFL running back Derrick Ward.

But after these flings, Khloe met the man who would then be her husband – Lamar Odom.

The couple were engaged just weeks later and nine days after their engagement, the pair got married in a lavish Beverly Hills ceremony.

Things seemed to be going well for the couple, but by 2013, Khloe filed for divorce following months of speculation about the athlete’s substance abuse. Their divorce was eventually finalised in December 2016.

Whilst the divorce was still going through, Khloe was spotted with rapper, French Montana but their romance was short-lived.

In May 2015, Khloe sparked romance rumours with former Lakers player Rick Fox, but then just two months later, began dating NBA star James Harden.

Despite their efforts, the pair parted ways in February 2016 and that summer, she was then spotted kissing Trey Songz at a nightclub in Las Vegas.

Things then got more serious for Khloe, when she began dating NBA player Tristan Thompson.

Despite the scandal, Khloe gave Thompson another chance for the sake of their daughter, however, less than a year later in February 2019, Thompson was accused of cheating on the star with Kardashian family friend Jordyn Woods.

After attempts to give the relationship another try, the couple then split again in June 2021 after Tristan was seen partying with multiple women in Los Angeles, which was followed with Tristan expecting a child with Texas personal trainer Maralee Nichols.

Despite this, in July 2022, Khloe and Tristan welcomed their second child together, via surrogate, but now she strictly denies any romantic relationship with the father of her children.

Kendall Jenner: Dated eight

The star first got close with singer Harry Styles, after his split from Taylor Swift in 2013.

The couple went on a romantic New Year’s ski trip with friends and were spotted together a handful of times, but the pair then opted to amicably remain just friends.

In August 2015, Kendall was introduced to Nick Jonas through his brother Joe Jonas and Joe’s then-girlfriend Gigi Hadid.

While it was reported that the pair were ‘texting’ and had met up for dinner, Nick was quick to shut down any rumours of romance.

By March 2016, Kendall was spotted with NBA baller Jordan Clarkson. The pair kept things low-key, but by June, it was confirmed that it wasn’t a ‘serious situation’.

That same month, Kendall caused discussions after she was seen to be ‘very flirty’ with rapper A$AP Rocky.

It was reported that the pair were ‘open to seeing where it goes’, but by May 2017 the pair were seen together less frequently.

Kendall then went on to date NBA player Blake Griffin, after the pair were first spotted together in the summer of 2017.

But things then became very on-and-off, as soon after their two-year anniversary in June 2022, the couple briefly split. They were spotted back together soon after, but then later explained that due to ‘busy schedules’, they were ending the relationship.

Kendall’s most public relationship then started with rapper Bad Bunny in February 2023.

The couple made a variety of public appearances and things seemed to be going smoothly, but by December 2023, a source confirmed to PEOPLE that the pair had parted ways.

Katie Price: Married three times, total of 14 men

Katie Price has previously made fun of her bad luck – she’s been held at gunpoint and has seen a number of her pets die – but it turns out that she’s been unlucky with finding The One too.

The former glamour model, who is currently dating Married at First Sight’s JJ Slater, left her first boyfriend, an electrician, for a short-lived fling with former Millwall striker Teddy Sheringham in 1996.

By the age of 18, Katie got engaged to Gladiator star Warren Furman, but despite Warren spending £3,000 on a diamond ring, the pair broke up soon after.

Katie was then famously in a relationship with Dane Bowers for two years from 1998 until 2000, as she said: ‘He was the only guy who completely taught me about having your heartbroken.’

Katie also had a brief romance with former premier league footballer Dwight Yorke back in 2001, but the couple broke up soon after Katie fell pregnant with her eldest child, son Harvey, who was born with disabilities including partial blindness, ADHD and Prader-Willi syndrome.
